Start Each Day with Gratitude

Wake up feeling thankful!

Savor small pleasures. Stop and notice when a neighbor takes a minute to greet you with a smile and chat about the weather. Think about how delicious that first cup of coffee or tea tastes.

Keep a gratitude journal. Write down the pleasant things that happen each day. Write down what you learned and be grateful that too.

Take time to write thank-you letters, making them creative and memorable, so friends and family know how much their thoughtfulness is appreciated. When possible, thank people in person.

Think about how much others have helped you, and contribute something back by returning a favor directly or pay it forward by doing something nice for a stranger.

Give thanks for relationships

Let your spouse or companion know how much their love and support mean to you. Tell your children you’re proud of their accomplishments and not giving up if they fail. Know your true friends and trust them with your private thoughts and encourage them to pursue their dreams.

Give thanks for your health

Having a strong mind and body makes it possible to do the things we love.

Give thanks for your faith

Pray for your spiritual teachers and friends who help you clarify your beliefs and make sound decisions.

Today, cultivate a sense of gratitude from the moment you wake up. Notice the good things in your life and acknowledge the many acts of kindness received. Just as important, remember to feel gratitude for lessons learned.

Gratitude is one thing that can change your life around. Feeling and expressing gratitude is proven to lift your spirits with the release of oxytocin (love hormone) in your bloodstream.

Gratitude helps relieve depression as you change your focus on what is going wrong in your life to what is going right in your life. Taking the time each morning and each evening to express your gratitude for:

  • What you learned
  • What you improved to increase your productivity at work or play
  • Health
  • Everything you already have – no matter how small it may seem to you will change those small things into bigger better things
  • People in your life – those who teach you hard lessons as well as those who bring you joy

Gratitude also opens up the avenue to your Spirit. If you remain in gratitude, you open the door for your Spirit to step in and guide you to bigger more wonderful things!
