Why You Should Explore Holistic Medicine for Optimal Health and Wellness — What to do When You’re Stuck and Nothing is Helping

This week I wanted to take some time to talk about a very common, and seriously debilitating problem that traditional Western medicine hasn’t really been able to address for people. It’s this idea of what to do when we feel bored and dissatisfied, like life has grown boring and lackluster. Or, it could be that even the “good” things in our life aren’t as exciting or fulfilling as they used to be.

None of these are problems that a traditional medical doctor can do much to address. If you think you’re depressed, or maybe you’re low on vitamins, or have an infection making you feel under the weather…these are things your doctor can help with. But, if most of what feels a little like mild “depression,” but might just be stress and boredom and hopelessness and a lot of other minor and major emotional or spiritually based things rolled together, then maybe it’s time to look at more holistic ways of creating healing in your life.

When you feel unhappy and stuck long term, you do NEED help! You don’t have to settle for an unhappy life! You want to feel better somehow! Maybe you’ve done the traditional things to help yourself already. You’re exercising more, eating better, drinking water, sleeping enough and trying to keep your stress under control (if you’re doing all that, you are already way ahead of most of us!) but it still isn’t enough? You still feel unhappy, bored and dissatisfied. In essence, you are stuck!

When Life Feels Stale

When life feels stale, your soul, your spirit, you heart is crying out for you to grow! It wants change! Shake things up, do something new! Think about which area of your life is lacking. Do you need more friends? More social connection? Is something out of balance? Too much work? Not enough fun? Have you been ignoring some area of your life where you already know you need to make a change?

What to do When you are Feeling Stuck

When you are feeling stuck, you need to make a plan. It is very important to stop thinking and researching ideas and focus on taking small actions that you can repeat. You can’t get stuck in analyzing the problem and thinking about change. The quickest way out of the rut of feeling stuck in life is to DO THINGS.

New actions don’t have to be big or cost money. They don’t have to BE the “entire solution” you are frantically seeking! They just have to move you forward in a direction and you can adjust that direction as you go along and figure out what you want to change to make your life better or more in balance. For example, you don’t have to join a gym and go every day, just go for a short walk around the block today and then try to repeat it tomorrow. You don’t have to save 20% of your paycheck TODAY, but you can open a savings account and start putting something in it today!

Why You’re Feeling Stuck

You are feeling stuck because you’ve already identified the need to make a change in your life, but have not actually acted on changing things.

Figuring out What’s Wrong – “The Things That Bother Me Are…”

Figuring out what is feeling “wrong” and calling for change might be easy, or maybe many things need to change and you aren’t sure where to begin. Take some time today to write down a few things. On a sheet of paper write, “The things that bother me are:” and start making a list. This list should give you a good idea of where to start any efforts to make a change.

Feeling Unmotivated

A lot of people today talk about feeling low energy and unmotivated to make changes in their life. After first making sure you are doing basic self-care each day (sleep, good food, water, exercise) then look at areas where you don’t believe you are able to make the change you wish you could make.

Ask yourself, “Is that TRUE?” In most situations, that isn’t actually true, we always have the power to change how we react to things in our lives, even if we can’t control what other people do.

Break it Down into Smaller Tasks

Even with our own struggles and challenges we can revisit these mental blocks to break down the change we wish to make into smaller and smaller tasks that we are capable of doing. For example, if you want to lose 50 pounds, that would be overwhelming. But, if you break this goal down into something more like, “I will make sure to eat fruit and vegetables each day,” and “I will take a 20-minute walk after dinner each night,” you have a much better and more realistic beginning to healthy habits that, over time, can build up to that goal!

But—Nothing I’ve Tried is Working!

If you feel like nothing you’ve tried is working, it may be time to connect with someone who can help you brainstorm where to begin and give you support as you make changes. If you’ve been feeling stuck and nothing you’ve done to create positive change in your life feels like it is working, it is time to start exploring more out of the box options. Holistic and alternative medicine can provide options and possibilities for healing that you might not have considered or explored yet. Holistic medicine treatments don’t have to be something scary or complicated. Sometimes reconnecting with yourself, the divine and your own connection with source energy can provide the support and healing that you need in order to move forward in your life.
